Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Environmental Health Sciences

DEGREE REQUIREMENTS

The predoctoral student must complete the following requirements to qualify for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Environmental Health Sciences:

  • A major program of study (courses and research) including a comprehensive written preliminary examination and an oral qualifying examination.
  • Assist the Faculty in the teaching of one or more lecture courses in toxicology or serve as a teaching assistant for an undergraduate course in the School of Biological Sciences or the Program in Public Health
  • A written dissertation based on the student’s original research, and a successful defense of the dissertation during an oral examination given by the student’s doctoral committee.
  • Full-time residence for at least six regular academic quarters.

TOX 298 A-B-C Environmental Toxicology Seminar, 2 units per quarter

*TOX 270 may be substituted with the approval of the advisor if the student already possesses a background in environmental health sciences
