Project CLEAR is a clinical trial led by UC Irvine infectious disease expert Dr. Susan S. Huang.

What is MRSA?
MRSA, or methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, is a "superbug" that is resistant to common antibiotics. It is found in many places,
including hospitals, nursing homes, gyms and
schools.

Even if MRSA is not causing an infection, people with MRSA who have recently been hospitalized or who have chronic illnesses are at higher risk of developing MRSA infections in the future. This clinical trial looks at two ways to help prevent future infections.
Is this a trial to treat MRSA?
No. This trial compares methods intended to prevent future infections among people with MRSA. If you have a MRSA infection, you should be seen by a doctor to have your infection treated. However, if you do have an infection, you may still join the trial if you meet the eligibility rules above.
What is being studied?
The clinical trial compares two ways of preventing future infections among people with MRSA:Can I choose a group?
No, participants are randomly assigned. You will have an equal chance of being in either group.
How long is the study?
We will support and follow you for one year, with telephone calls twice a month. You will be paid to have four follow-up clinic visits.
How much will I be paid?
You will be paid $25 for the first visit (month 1); $30 for the second visit (month 3); $35 for the third visit (month 6); $50 for the fourth visit (month 9), for a total of $140.
