Our goal for the UC Irvine School of Medicine's Internal Medicine Residency Program is to train the extraordinary internist.
We strive to provide our residents with the skills and knowledge necessary to pursue the career paths of their choice — from the generalist to the specialist, the basic researcher to the outstanding clinician.
By the end of training, our residents are clinically astute, academically exceptional, altruistic and committed to the highest professional standards.
In order for these attibutes to flourish, residents-in-training must be guided and treated with respect. Our faculty members serve as mentors and facilitators who are dedicated to this core belief as they guide the house staff.
Our priority is the education of our residents. We regularly evaluate each training and learning experience for their educational opportunities. Rotations that fall short are revised or removed.
Our curriculum committee meets regularly and reviews feedback from the house staff about the content and quality of each rotation. We believe the essence of internal medicine remains its focus on problem solving in both general and specialty medicine.
As our curriculum outline demonstrates, experiences for UC Irvine internal medicine residents include not only traditional venues but also training in new modes of healthcare delivery and exposure to alternative disciplines.
Preparing for the future
Residents need to be highly skilled to practice medicine in today's rapidly evolving environment, prepared to provide patient-centered care as well as to understand the business of medicine and the many modes of healthcare delivery.
The curriculum described on this website has at its core all that is essential to internal medicine. Or program is fluid and dynamic, in step with our residents and faculty. We are continuing to improve, evolve and rise to the next level.
We invite you to consider joining us on this exciting journey.
